There are fraudulent operators who contact speakers and participants at academic conferences. They operate under names such as ‘Global Travel’ and deliberately use the conference’s brand name to offer accommodation to participants. The emails contain links to deceptively genuine-looking websites and request direct payment. These are either attempts at fraud or involve overpriced room rates.
